In a technological world, where having fun means spending hours sitting in front of a screen, kids don’t tend to exercise, join in on sports, or socialize as much as they used to. The rise of video games and internet usage has seen a decrease in exercise, and it’s no wonder that fitness standards have been overshadowed by the importance of entertainment. There are many benefits to teaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to kids, it empowers them to learn how to protect themselves while teaching them realistic scenarios they can use in their everyday lives. Plus, it gives kids an opportunity to socialize with other children and develop important life skills such as athleticism.
Focus & Discipline
Kids who have a martial arts background display a higher level of focus than kids who do not. This is because Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a very technical sport so it is necessary to focus, concentrate and pay attention to all the teachings. Kids also learn to set and achieve goals and have better self-control. All these factors are responsible for learning disabilities and behavioral problems usually associated with anxiety and stress. What's more, children who learn martial arts will be more confident and learn to focus on the things that are important in life.
Every day the kids develop the ability to defend themselves with their training partners and with time they develop a huge feeling of accomplishment from executing the techniques in the correct way. This, along with the trackable progress that our belt system provides and victories acquired in competitions, gives kids a huge increase in self-confidence.
Confidence in self-defense should make the child grow up to be an all-around confident individual because they know they can look after themselves if need be.
Like most martial arts, BJJ demands respect. Our students learn to respect those who have the knowledge, the senior and the teacher, just as they learn to respect their teammates, their opponents, and most importantly, themselves. What's more, being in an environment with different types of people allows the kids to create a sense of respect in all social aspects. Children surrounded by only one social group can develop prejudices and stereotypes without you even realizing, which can lead to disrespect, and often, to confrontation.
A child who trains in Jiu-Jitsu will naturally improve their motor coordination and body awareness. This will help their posture, handwriting, and care in their daily activities, in addition to growing up healthy by learning to maintain a healthy diet.
Exercising provides quality of life and makes us less stressed, and just like adults, the kids also deal with fatigue and stress from day to day.
